If I had never heard the howling sounds echoing through the trees at 3:30 am, I would be frightened in my bungalow. Not to worry though. It’s the howler monkeys waking up ahead of the rest of us. Soon the tucans and macaws will chime in along with an assortment of others signaling that daytime Is approaching sooner than later.
That‘s life in Flores about an hour and a half from Tikal National Park where I hiked the ruins of the ancient Maya civilization. The area is wooded and surrounded by two lakes. My room is on the third deck at tree top level overlooking the acreage.
Back to to sleep for a bit more rest before it is time to pack for Belize.
